Quick and Easy Detox Morning Smoothie Recipe: Tropical Green Smoothie
I’ve always had a complicated relationship with breakfast, and by that I mean it used to simply not exist.
Mornings are a whirlwind of getting everyone out the door, juggling early meetings, and trying to remember where I put my coffee. And if I’m honest, I’m just not that hungry when I wake up.
So, I’d skip it. By the time I realized I needed to eat, it would be late afternoon, and I’d be running on fumes, coffee, and maybe a bag of chips. Not exactly a recipe for success, right?
But that changed when I started incorporating smoothies into my mornings. Suddenly, breakfast wasn’t this big hurdle I had to clear. It became something easy, quick, and—dare I say it—enjoyable. I could sip on my smoothie while tackling my morning to-dos, and even better, while I am driving into the office and the best part? I actually started to feel energized, focused, and ready to take on the day. I thought, “Wow, Jess, imagine what pumping your body full of nutrients in the morning can do for you!” (insert my snarkiest voice here).
That’s where this Tropical Green Smoothie comes in. It's a beloved favorite from my 5-day detox & restart program. It’s the perfect mix of sweet and healthy, packed with nutrients that keep you going strong from morning to afternoon. Plus, it’s ridiculously easy to make.
Whether you’re someone who’s never had time for breakfast (like me), or you’re just looking for a quick, healthy option that doesn’t involve a drive-thru, this smoothie might just become your new morning staple.
Let’s get to the good stuff. Here’s why this smoothie needs to be in your life:
You can throw this together in minutes—faster than you can scroll through Instagram.
It’s packed with greens, fruit, and chia seeds, giving you a powerhouse of vitamins, fiber, and omega-3s.
It’s delicious. Trust me, the tropical flavor is going to make you forget it’s good for you.
Yeah yeah yeah, just give me the recipe already….
Morning Detox Smoothie Recipe: Tropical Green Smoothie
Serves: 1
Ingredients:
1 handful fresh spinach or baby kale, rinsed and dried
1 cup frozen pineapple
½ ripe banana (frozen if possible)
2 tablespoons chia seeds, soaked in water to form chia gel
1 cup coconut or almond milk
2-4 ice cubes
Directions:
First, make the chia gel: Add 2 tablespoons of chia seeds to a small bowl with ½ cup of water. Let it sit for 10 minutes. (Pro tip: This is the perfect time to knock out one of those other morning tasks.)
Blend: Once your chia gel is ready, add it to your blender along with the remaining ingredients. Start blending on low, then gradually increase the speed until everything is smooth and creamy.
Enjoy: Pour your smoothie into a glass, or a travel drink holder, take a deep breath, and enjoy knowing that you are doing something for yourself this morning.
Here is why I believe this green smoothie works so well:
Now, I’m not just saying this smoothie is great because it’s easy. It’s also packed with benefits:
Nutrient Density: These greens are like a multivitamin in leaf form - well not quite, but I’m excited here (but don’t go replacing your multi-vitamin). Combining leafy greens, fruits, and seeds provides a wide range of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants..
Pineapple: This tropical fruit is a digestion hero, thanks to its vitamin C and bromelain content.
Fiber Content: The greens, fruit, and chia seeds contribute to a high-fiber drink, which supports digestive health and satiety.
Chia Seeds: These little guys are nutritional powerhouses, loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, and protein. Soaking them makes them easier to digest and absorb.
Hydration: The liquid base and water-rich fruits help with hydration.
Convenience: Who has time for a full-on morning breakfast? Not this girl! Smoothies are not only an easy way to consume multiple servings of fruits and vegetables in one drink, but extremely convenient as well.
Customizability: Don’t like the flavors? Play around with the ingredients until you do! The recipe can be easily adjusted to personal taste preferences or nutritional needs.(I tend to throw in a scoop of plant-based vanilla protein powder for even more of a punch).
Ok, this is where I leave you with my final thoughts, for now.
Making smoothies a part of my morning routine was a game-changer. It turned breakfast from something I dreaded, or simply didn’t do at all, into something I could be consistent with and to support my health first thing each morning. This routine has given me a way to start my days by me doing something for myself, even if it is in the smallest of ways.
If you’re ready to make some simple, healthy changes that fit into your busy life, let’s talk. Because thriving in your health while excelling in your career doesn’t have to be complicated—it can be as easy as blending up something delicious (see what I did there :-)).
